Germany boasts of around 700 state, municipal and independent theatres, plus opera houses, dance companies, touring groups, improvisational and puppet theatres. Whatever happens across the country finds pronounced expression in Berlin and in it’s huge performing arts scene.

20 theatre and performance artists and enthusiasts will get a 6-day pass to explore and experience the performance arts scene in Berlin. This Culture Fox program will give you a unique opportunity to survey and learn from the free theatre scene as well as gain insight into the performance arts establishments. Carmen, our local expert, will be your companion during the program.

Morning: Experience Berlin´s famous breakfast culture at Cafe Rix

Evening: Check out the Gendarmenmarkt, an exclusive shopping street

Day 6:
Morning: Indulge in some DDR nostalgia by a visit of the interactive DDR Museum

Evening: Say good bye to your co discoverers over a farewell dinner


Day 1
In the morning we will check into our hotel and settle in. Over breakfast you will be officially welcomed and given all the information you need on the upcoming days. To get a deeper insight into the Berlin’s performance scene, you will spend the entire afternoon with the Schaubühne Berlin, a distinguished theatre that has radicalised conventional stage aesthetics and contributes to independent thought and international exchange.

Day 2
After an intense first day we will take our time in the morning after which we will make our way to the famous Berlin wall. We learn more about some of the history of Berlin while enjoying the wall’s iconic artwork. In the evening we will see the play The Invention Of The Red Army

Day 3
After visiting the famous Check point Charlie in the morning we will get to know Berlins alternative performing spaces, the actors and protagonists and the understand the free scene historically and architecturally. Berlin´s Free Performance Art Scene is the biggest in the world. With its international flavour, it is very expansive as well as diverse where you will find performance that range from dance to theatre, inhabited by artists across age-groups and geographies. We will end the day with a Saxon style dinner at Apels Garten.

Day 4
This day is marked by the first part of the Workshop on Performance Art, an extensive 3-day workshop with Oliver Pollak, a renowned theater artist and workshop leader who teaches performance in various capacities. The workshop will look at the magnificent possibilities of physical expression of the human body through exercises aimed at improving stage presence and authenticity, physical-sculptural expression, and dynamic virtuous play. This workshop is aimed at performers, established as well those yet to discover their potential, with a strong eagerness to be on stage, to physically engage and sweat.

However, we visit the Brandenburg Gate in the morning and will go up to the top of the Reichstag building which its extraordinary architecture and magnificent views of the city. In the evening we will sample some authentic German cuisine at Das Lokal

Day 5
After experiencing Berlin’s famous breakfast culture at Cafe Rix, most of the day will be spent with Oliver Pollak for the second part of his Workshop on Performance Art. In the evening we will have time to visit the Gendarmentmarkt, an interesting shopping street and a hotspot for Berlin’s fashion.

Day 6
The final day of this intense and rewarding experience will be marked by the third and final part of Oliver Pollak’s workshop. But not before we indulge in some DDR nostalgia at the DDR Museum in the morning. This interactive museum will give us a peak into what it was like to live in the former DDR. In the evening we will say goodbye and reflect on the past 6 days during our farewell dinner.

The program fee covers all on location costs including:

The program fee does not include the following:

  • Cost of flight: You are free to book your own flight as per your preference of travel dates. We can assist you in booking of the flights should you need our help.
  • Cost of Visa: You need to apply for your visa on your own. We will provide you with a letter confirming your participation in the program which you will need for your visa application. We can also connect you to travel agents who can help you put together your visa application should you need.
  • Cost of any personal expenses incurred by you during the program.

  • An advance of 50% would be required towards confirmation of the trip and the balance to be cleared 1 month before departure.
  • Payments to be received, as per above, in full before the start of the event, verbal confirmations will not be considered as a “YES”.
  • The entire itinerary is designed for maximum learning opportunities across the best known locations and dates.
  • Flight bookings and visa processing needs to be taken care of by yourself directly. We would extend our complete support in terms of following the right processes. The Visas can be applied at the nearest Embassy or any VFS centres in India. We can also assist you for the same on extra cost.
  • The stay will be primarily in shared multi-bed rooms. Twin or single occupancy, with en-suite bathroom, can be arranged upon extra cost.
  • We will attempt to make all necessary arrangement for food requirements; vegetarian or any other. Do let us know of your specific food needs, if any.
  • The currency used is Euro. Credit cards are accepted at almost all locations around the country.
  • Any diversions or optional activities, which are not listed, would need to be paid for additionally.
  • All photographs would be published via our social network group pages and we do not charge additional for any pictures, unless some special requirements.
