Germany boasts of around 700 state, municipal and independent theatres, plus opera houses, dance companies, touring groups, improvisational and puppet theatres. Whatever happens across the country finds pronounced expression in Berlin and in it’s huge performing arts scene.
20 theatre and performance artists and enthusiasts will get a 6-day pass to explore and experience the performance arts scene in Berlin. This Culture Fox program will give you a unique opportunity to survey and learn from the free theatre scene as well as gain insight into the performance arts establishments. Carmen, our local expert, will be your companion during the program.

In the morning we will check into our hotel and settle in. Over breakfast you will be officially welcomed and given all the information you need on the upcoming days. To get a deeper insight into the Berlin’s performance scene, you will spend the entire afternoon with the Schaubühne Berlin, a distinguished theatre that has radicalised conventional stage aesthetics and contributes to independent thought and international exchange.
After an intense first day we will take our time in the morning after which we will make our way to the famous Berlin wall. We learn more about some of the history of Berlin while enjoying the wall’s iconic artwork. In the evening we will see the play The Invention Of The Red Army
After visiting the famous Check point Charlie in the morning we will get to know Berlins alternative performing spaces, the actors and protagonists and the understand the free scene historically and architecturally. Berlin´s Free Performance Art Scene is the biggest in the world. With its international flavour, it is very expansive as well as diverse where you will find performance that range from dance to theatre, inhabited by artists across age-groups and geographies. We will end the day with a Saxon style dinner at Apels Garten.
This day is marked by the first part of the Workshop on Performance Art, an extensive 3-day workshop with Oliver Pollak, a renowned theater artist and workshop leader who teaches performance in various capacities. The workshop will look at the magnificent possibilities of physical expression of the human body through exercises aimed at improving stage presence and authenticity, physical-sculptural expression, and dynamic virtuous play. This workshop is aimed at performers, established as well those yet to discover their potential, with a strong eagerness to be on stage, to physically engage and sweat.
After experiencing Berlin’s famous breakfast culture at Cafe Rix, most of the day will be spent with Oliver Pollak for the second part of his Workshop on Performance Art. In the evening we will have time to visit the Gendarmentmarkt, an interesting shopping street and a hotspot for Berlin’s fashion.
The final day of this intense and rewarding experience will be marked by the third and final part of Oliver Pollak’s workshop. But not before we indulge in some DDR nostalgia at the DDR Museum in the morning. This interactive museum will give us a peak into what it was like to live in the former DDR. In the evening we will say goodbye and reflect on the past 6 days during our farewell dinner.
